Prep roundup: Carson High School girls soccer edges McQueen

RENO — Despite a lackluster effort, the Carson girls soccer team escaped with a 1-0 win at McQueen on Thursday.

Carson coach Greg Lehman admitted this week’s Homecoming activities seemed to affect his team’s performance on Thursday.

“We had moments but we seemed to be really, really flat,” Lehman said. “We looked tired today.

“It was actually really disappointing. We had a few moments where we seemed to be putting it together but we couldn’t sustain it for any length of time.”

The Senators salvaged the win when they scored with six minutes left in regulation. Karla Reyes scored on a header off of Lindy Lehman’s corner kick. Reyes played at goalie in the first half and combined with Galilea Cid, who played at goalie in the second half, to post the shutout.

Lehman said Makeala Bigley and Teresa Boehmer played well defensively for Carson, which improved to 8-2-1 in league.

Douglas 3, Galena 1

MINDEN — McKenna Kynett scored two goals and assisted on another to help Douglas remain undefeated in a matchup between Sierra League front-runners.

In the process, Douglas (11-0 league, 16-0 overall) completed a sweep its regular season series against Galena (9-2-1).

Alexis von Schottenberg scored in the eighth minute, assisted by Kynett, to give the Tigers an early lead. The two collaborated on two scoring plays in the second half when Kynett scored off assists from von Schottenstein in the 49th and 56th minutes.

GOLF

Krupp qualifies for state

SPARKS — Taylor Krupp shot 185 for 36 holes to qualify for the upcoming NIAA state golf tournament at Sommerset Country Club, according to coach Rod Butler.

The NIAA is releasing the official results today. Bethany Kniffen shot 211, Camryn Aten 252 and Angelica Liwag had a 247 for CHS.

FROSH FOOTBALL

Carson 45, Manogue 0

Abel Carter got the rout going for Carson (3-2) by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Carter scored five touchdowns, with his other TDs coming on scoring runs.

Damian Wallace scored two touchdowns.
