Committee finalizing local events for Nevada’s birthday

Fallon is going to participate in the world record attempt to have the most people in the state sing the state song at once at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the courtyard behind City Hall.

The city is inviting the community to come out and join Mayor Ken Tedford Jr. and the Fallon City Council to sing.

The school district is also allowing all teachers/classrooms to pre-register and participate.

Celebrate Nevada’s sesquicentennial and help the city make history in setting a record for most people in a U.S. state to sing their state song at once. Also on Thursday Gpv. Brian Sandoval, Lt. Gov. Brian Schools, companies, organizations, government employees and individuals are joining in — let’ show the rest of the country and the world that #NevadaSings!

The world record will be officiated by RecordSetter, a Las Vegas-based organization, quickly establishing itself as the new home of world records.

Visit the Nevada 150 website at www.Nevada150.org to sign-up and let the city know that you’ll be participating. This will help the city not only reach its goal but also allow the city to keep residents updated as it builds up to the historic #NevadaSings record attempt. Nevada’s Birthday Celebration at Local Museum

The Mayor’s NV 150 Commission is celebrating Nevada’s 150th birthday on Oct. 31 with a series of free public events.

From 4-6 p.m, the Churchill County Museum will host the burial of a community time capsule and the Commission will grant awards to the winners of the Then and Now science fair. Authors Michon Mackedon and Valerie Serpa will be present to sign their newly released book “Fallon.” Author Linda Rasmussen will be present to sign her new book, “The State That Made a Nation Great.” Copies of the Lahotnan Valley News ”Churchill County Memories” will also be available.

Birthday cake will be served at 5 p.m. Wearing costumes (Halloween or vintage) is encouraged.

Nevada’s Birthday Celebration at Venturacci Gym

Later in the day beginning at 7 p.m, the Mayor’s NV 150 Commission will hold a free public event at the Venturacci Gym. The event will feature a square dance demonstration by the Oasis Squares, dancing for all to music provided by the Carson River Band, free hot dogs and birthday cake, and a cash bar manned by the local volunteer fire department. Families are encouraged to stop by the gym following trick or treating for free hot dogs, cake and fun. Costumes are welcome.

DOWNTOWN CELEBRATION

Downtown merchants are planning a day of celebration to honor the Silver State on its 150th birthday, which is Oct. 31.

Rising Sun Gallery and Art Studio, Heck’s Meats, Blush Skin Spa, His Inspirations and Too Cute Totes are presenting a day of activities for all ages.

From 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Ivy Ward will set up her booth for face painting. Heck’s Meats provides lunch at noon, accompanied by entertainment. A mural dedication begins at 1 p.m.

Later in the day from 4-8 p.m., Danny Smith serves tri-tip, while music will be provided by The Crossing Kind featuring Jacob and Christina Thomas.

In addition to these activities, the sixth annual Spooktacular runs from 4-7 p.m., and all businesses will be handing out candy. Openshaw Saddlery has a Halloween storytime at 4 p.m, 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
