A pitched battle in Chinatown (continued from Friday). The policeman receiving a shot through the left breast, just below the heart. At this juncture, the firing became general between the members of the rival companies and every person in Chinatown who could muster a weapon shut his eyes and blazed away. The battle lasted about 10 minutes and was very badly managed, as far as execution was concerned. In the meantime, all is serene on the Chinatown front.

It is reported that George Duffy and Dan O’Keefe had a row over a poker game in Reno the other night and that Duffy fired two shots at O’Keefe, one of which passed through his clothes and struck Barney Clow’s boy, grazing his scalp. The boy was not dangerously hurt.

100 years ago

Two prominent I.W.W. people were arrested in Wabuska Thursday on the charge of vagrancy. Both were strong, husky men who were sleeping in boxcars and begging for food. When brought before Justice Young, one gave his name as John D. Rockefeller and the other as Andrew Carnegie. The first was given 40 days, and Carnegie, 30 days.

70 years ago

The Carson City grammar school was looted of $7 in cash last night, obtained from desks in two of the rooms, and the burglar left leaving no clue. All doors and windows were locked. Chief of Police Herman Smoot investigated.

60 years ago

Gov. Charles H. Russell announced today that the Governor’s Mansion will be thrown open to the public as usual on Saturday, Oct. 31, Nevada Day. Nevada’s hospitable governor and Mrs. Russell will receive guests at the front door.
