League of Women Voters sets candidate forums

The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in conjunction with Sierra Nevada Forums and American Association of University Women, has announced a series of election forums to be held Sept. 22 through 30 in Carson City. The public is invited to attend these forums, which will be held at the Carson City Community Center, Sierra Room, located at 851 E. William Street. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the forum begins at 6 each evening.

Monday, Sept. 22: Ballot issues will be presented. Ballot issues will be addressed by presenters stating the positive and the negative for each item. Issues to be covered include the Mining Tax and Education Initiative and the Question 1 Appellate Court issue.

Thursday, Sept. 25: Candidates for Carson City Board of Supervisors and School Board Trustees will speak. Board of Supervisors candidates include: Karen Abowd, Lisa Helget, Lori Bagwell and John McKenna. School Board Trustee candidates include: Jim Bathgate, Ron Swirczek, David W. Carter, Stacie Wilke, Ryan Green and Jeff Cherpeski. Carson City’s ballot question concerning the election of supervisors by ward will be discussed.

Monday, Sept. 29: Candidates for the Carson City District Attorney’s race, Assembly District 40, and Senate District 16 will be presented. Candidates include: Carson City District Attorney’s race: Mark Krueger, Jason Woodbury; Assembly District 40 candidates: Dave Cook, Philip “PK” O’Neill and John Wagner. Invited Senate District 16 candidates: John H. Everhart, Michael Kelley and Ben Kieckhefer.

Tuesday, Sept. 30: Candidates for Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General will be presented. Candidates for Lieutenant Governor include Lucy Flores, Mark Hutchison and Mike Little. Invited candidates for Attorney General include Adam Laxalt, Ross Miller and Jonathan Hansen.

A voter’s guide with individual candidate responses for Carson City and Washoe County races will be available online on the League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada website at http://www.lwvnn.org.
