The Carson boys and girls cross country teams showed progress at the Douglas Class event, improving on its effort from last week at the Twilight Invitational. “The kids overall did pretty well,” Carson coach Pete Sinnott said. “They got a little better from last week.”
Eveline Delgado is returning to the form of her freshman year when she finished second in the state. Delgado finished second overall and won the junior girls race, finishing the 2.5-mile course in 15 minutes, 51 seconds.
Also for Carson’s girls, Shelby Brown took 10th in the senior race in 17:38, Athena Favero was 10th in the junior race in 17:50, Rhianna Jackson was eighth in the freshmen race, Jiavanna Wong was 14th in 18:10 in the sophomore race, Allison Green was 19th in the sophomore race in 18:45, Tiffany DeRosa was 10th in the freshmen race in 19:34.7 and Chloe Hataway was 22nd in the freshmen race.
Ian VanRensselaer had a strong race for Carson’s boys, finishing 11th overall and fifth in the junior race, lowering his time by about a minute from last week to 14:07. Also for Carson’s boys, Danny Juaregui took 14th in the senior race in 14:12, Wyatt Cartier was 17th in the senior race, Michael Lieken was 19th in the senior race, Keifer Catron was 15th in the sophomore race, Joshua Merriner was 22nd in the junior race, Miles Bean was 20th and Konnor Van Worth was 21st in the sophomore race and Ethan Lopes was 17th in the junior race.
DAYTON STRONG
The Dust Devils had another strong outing on a rugged, hilly 3.1-mile course with five water crossings at the Whittell Invitational. Dayton won a total of six medals in the B division.
For the girls, Sydney Strickler the varsity girls race in 26:01. Hanna Elissa made a 1-2 finish for Dayton, finishing in 26:24. the two runners led the whole race.
For the boys, Dayton had a 3-4-5 finish with J.J. Ply in third in 21:04, Brady Heusser in fourth in 21:10 and Oakley Workman fifth in 21:17.
“Oakley finished in front of Brady last week,” Dayton Coach Shawn Anderson said. “I think they will be battling each other every race. And they aren’t far behind J.J. I think the three of them pushing each other is a great thing to be happening during a race.”
Also for Dayton’s boys, Toby Tapley finished in 22:46 and Jared Logan finished in 22:57.

DAYTON GOES 2-2
The Dust Devils finished third in the pool on Friday at the Yerington Tournament. Dayton beat Sierra Lutheran 25-6, 25-17 and Mountain View Christian 25-14, 25-11. Dayton sustained two close losses against larger school Damonte Ranch 16-25, 24-25 and White Pine 25-23, 17-25, 13-15.
For Dayton on the first day, Shalia Powell had 59 assists, Cheyenne Strong had 15 kills, seven aces and 11 digs, Kaylee Turner had 12 kills, four aces and five blocks, Rachel Hadley had 20 kills, 4 aces and six digs, Makenna Olsen had eight kills and four blocks and Kallie Strong added four kills and three digs.
Dayton will continue play in the tournament at 9 a.m. today.
