YERINGTON — Dayton High’s volleyball team won five straight matches to capture the Silver Division championship Saturday at the Yerington Invitational.
The Dust Devils knocked off Spring Creek, Battle Mountain, Smith Valley and Wells in two straight games before winning the best of three finale against Bishop, 2-1. Shalia Powell led Dayton with 82 assists, 11 aces and nine digs, while Cheyanne Strong added 17 kills five aces and five digs. Kaylee Turner contributed 10 kils, four aces and six blocks with Rachel Hadley adding 17 kills and 13 digs. McKenna Olsen contributed 11 kills and four blocks. Elvia Diaz had five digs.
Dayton hosts Truckee Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Carson spikers go 1-3
CARMICHAEL, Calif. — Carson High posted a 1-3 record at Saturday’s Carmichael Invitational.
Carson lost to Rio Americano in pool play. 14-25 and 20-25; lost to Union Mine 22-25, 26-24 and 15-17; and beat Dublin 25-19 and 25-16. The Senators then lost to El Camino 7-25 and 20-25.
Jaycie Roberts had 16 kills, two blocks and had 14 digs. Julianna Anderson had two aces, 11 kills, three blocks and seven digs. Natalie Anderson finished with two aces, two blocks and 42 assists. Makenzie Tucker had three aces and 24 digs, while Kyle Riskie added six kills and two blocks. Allison Kibbe had three kills, a block and a dig. Arianna Schmidt finished with three kills. Maddie Jergensen had 10 kills and five blocks.
Carson visits Reno Monday at 6 and Reed Wednesday at 6.
