Carson City Freeway Project meeting Sept. 17

The Nevada Department of Transportation will host a public meeting on the next phase of the Carson City Freeway Project on Wednesday.

The meeting will provide updates and a proposed schedule for upcoming phase 2B-3 of freeway construction, which will pave and open the freeway to traffic between Fairview Drive and the Spooner/U.S. 50 junction in south Carson City.

The intersection of the Carson City Freeway and U.S. 50 at Spooner junction is planned as a signalized, at-grade intersection. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2015, with the final segment of freeway projected to open to traffic in 2017. In addition, the meeting also will provide information on proposed landscape and aesthetics.

Finishing work on the previous phase 2B-2 wrapped up last month, including excavation of nearly 300,000 cubic yards of earth for both drainage detention basins and roadway, construction of nearly two and half miles of storm drain and sewer and water lines and placement of 15,000-plus tons of base and paving. The construction laid the groundwork for the final paving and work on the last approximately four miles of the freeway to be completed as part of phase 2B-3.

The public information meeting will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the Carson City Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall, 701 Old Clear Creek Road.

The public is invited to attend the open-format meeting at any time between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to discuss the project and provide comments.
