Alex Myrehn scored twice and Jessie Delgado and Zach Guthrie added a touchdown apiece to lead the Carson Pop Warner Mighty Mites to a 26-6 victory over Fallon last weekend.
Besides his two scores, Myrehn also recovered an onside kick, and Delgado made some clutch throws to Decarlo Quintana.
Isaac Avina, Jordan Duncan, Nykolas Coughran and Adam Moore were the top offensive linemen, while Danny Alvarado. J.T. Heaton, Nathan McKee, Miles Frewert and Evan Lillie played well defensively.
Carson takes its two-game winning streak on the road against the Reno South Wolf Pack at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Bishop Manogue.
Fundraiser at
Carson High
The popular Drive One 4 Ur School fund-raiser put on by Dick Campagni’s Capital Ford is set for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Funds raised go toward the athletic program at CHS. The school receives $20 for each test drive with a total of $6,000 available to be raised.
West, Williams, Mettler
win CTC singles titles
Mark Mettler, Steve West and Amanda Williams won singles championships at the Carson Tennis Club’s Fall Classic over the weekend at Centennial Park and Carson High School.
Mettler won the men’s A singles with a 6-3 and 6-3 win over Ryan Johnson, while West knocked off Dan Richardson 6-3 and 6-2 in the men’s B finale. It was West’s fifth title in six years. Williams needed three sets to beat Hannah Corrigan 5-7, 6-4 and 6-4 in the longest match of the day.
In mixed A doubles, Jeff Estep and Elenore Lockwood beat Lou and Jim Eftimoff 6-1 and 6-2, and in mixed B doubles, Bob McCann and Yrma Haro beat Jared Hearn and Preeta Amin, 4-6, 6-4 and 6-2.
In men’s A doubles, Brian Bigelow and Mettler defeated Mike Fipps and Jeff Estep 6-4 and 6-0, and Dick Lee and Brad Bottoset defeated Roger McCaskill and Frank Blankenship 6-3, 1-6, and 6-3.
Mike and Lyndsey Allen defeated Roger and Emily McCaskill 6-1 and 6-0 to win the parent-child doubles.
A total of 52 players participated.
Sanford, Hala team
up for CVGC win
Bruce Sanford and Roger Hala shot a net 49 to win the two-man scramble event for the Carson Valley Men’s Club on Sept. 14. Second place in Flight A went to Chuck Householder and Frank Tisiot with a 50, and Joe Morrison and G. Paulson combined for a 54.
Bill Centers and Brent Holderman won Flight B with a 50, while John Pearson and James Jay Mason had a 53. Gerry Bing and John Cary finished with a 58.
Pemberton grabs Sr. Men
event at Carson Valley
Bob Pemberton won a tie breaker over Brick Ludington to win Flight A at the Carson Valley Senior Men’s Club 36-hole stroke play event Sept. 14.
Donald Dick was third at 138 and David Morris was fourth at 131. Gary Carsten won Flight B with a 131, five shots better than Paul Finan. Jim Arens was third at 139 and Bill Centers was fourth at 140.
3-way deadlock at
Empire Ranch event
Three teams tied for first place at the Empire Senior Men’s Club 4-man Stableford event on Sept. 10.
The teams of Nick Paul, Cleve Dalen, Bob Pitcock and Duanne Carroll, Vic Rocha, Adam Huber, Phil Polaske and Chuck Edgar, and Mike Logue, Al Giannotti, Mike Rogers and Bill Milligan finished at 153.
In fourth was Jim Sand, Bob Pluth, John Masiello and Richard Ziegler were a point back at 152.
Bighorns host tryouts
in Reno, Sacramento
The Reno Bighorns are holding two open tryouts in preparation for the 2014-15 NBA D-League season.
The sessions ar Oct. 5 at the Kings’ practice facility in Sacramento from noon to 6 p.m. and on Oct. 19 at the South Reno Athletic Club from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Players will compete to earn an invitation to the team’s training camp in early November.
