Sixteen champions between the ages of 9 and 14 were crowned at the recent Knights of Columbus Council No. 4781 Soccer Challenge at Edmonds Sports Complex.
Locally, Gracie Wait and Andrew Kalicki won in the 9-year-old group, Maiella Riva won the 10-year-old girls title and Addison Castles was second. Stephen West was the winner in the 11-year-old boys group. In the 12-year-old girls division, Alize Hernandez and April Hal went 1-2, and John Miles and Lucas Abreu were 1-2 in the boys 12-year-old group. Ashley Britt and Miriam Rodrigas went 1-2 in the 13-year-old girls division and Misael Ceballos and Evan Gibbs went 1-2 in the 13-year-old boys division. Tanner Kalicki won the boys 14 title and Gerardo Vicente was second.
Mighty Mites lose to Douglas, 28-0
Douglas overpowered Carson in the second half en route to a 28-0 Pop Warner win over the weekend.
Twice Carson got inside the 10-yard line only to be turned away. Jessie Delgado and Decarlo Quintana hooked up for a 50-yard completion.
Kayden Popham, Brandon Bradley, Jayden Laplante and Garrett Burton played solid in the first half before Douglas broke through.
Carson winter sports sign-ups
Carson High’s winter sports night is set for Oct. 13 at 5:30 in the library.
Those who have not signed up for a winter sport through the parent portal must do so prior to turning in their sport packet, or complete the packet during the sign-up event. All athletes who have turned in their packets must complete a returning athlete form and be cleared through the library and finance office prior to turning in the sports packet. The deadline for sign-ups is Nov. 5. Eligibility is based on the Oct. 17 grading period. Go to the athletic office for more information,

Oktoberfest at course
Silver Oak Golf Course is offering $25 rounds of golf every Monday in October. A free beer comes with the green fee.

Hala wins flight at Carson Valley
Roger Hala shot a net 57 to win Flight A at the recent Empire Ranch Senior Men’s event. The format was 17 best holes.
Jack Sparman was second at 65 and Dennis Patterson was third with a 67.
Charles Poe shot 58 to win Flight B with Matt Budjako and David Morris at 64 and 68, respectively. Mel Ness won Flight C with a 59, four shots better than Frank Tisiot and seven better than John Pearson. John Guidicatti won Flight D with a 51 and Jack Zippwald was second with a 61. Frank Temple and John Carey tied for third at 67.
Shabi shoots net 65 at Empire
Jim Shabi shot a net 65 to win Flight A at the recent Empire Ranch Senior Men’s event on Sept. 24.
John Tierney was two strokes back at 66, and Fred Olesek and Bill Hetherton were at 67. Jim Sand won Flight B with a 65, one shot better than Dan Powers and three better than Mark Wilson and John Pearson. Gary Mick won Flight C with a 64, while Richard Ziegler was second at 66 and Jim Green was third at 67. Cleve Dalen won Flight D with a 71, one shot better than Joe O’Brien, Moe Dias and Dick Brownfield.
