Virginia City to host Western musician Mary Kaye Knaphus

Mary Kaye Knaphus, an award winning Western musician, is appearing at Piper’s Opera House at 7:30 p.m. April 24.

Knaphus, a native born Texan, lives on a century-old pioneer homestead in a small Western town in central Utah with her family.

In 2013 Knaphus was recognized as Female Performer and Songwriter of the Year by the Western Music Association. She was named Best Solo Musician by True West Magazine, and she received a Spur Award from the Western Writer’s of America for her Butch Cassidy tune, “Any Name Will Do.” She won the 2012 Song of the Year award from the Western Music Association with cowboy poet Les Buffham for their song, “No Wilder Place” and a 2011 Will Rogers Award from The Academy of Western Artists’ for Best Western Female Performer. She was honored as the 2010 Female Vocalist of the Year by the Western Music Association.

Knaphus’ latest album, “The Dawn and The Dusk,” hit No. 1 on the Western Music Charts. Her song “Jealous of the Moon” was chosen by American Cowboy as the Top Cowboy Song of 2013, and the album was nominated as the 2013 Western Album of the Year by the Western Music Association. Her “Clean Outta Luck” release garnered a Song of the Year nomination from the Western Music Association for “Cowboy Waltzin’ Across Her Mind,” which was on the charts for 12 months.

Tickets in advance cost $15 per person and $10 for children and seniors. Piper’s Opera House is at 12 N. B St. in Virginia City.
