Carson City gas prices stabilize below 2014 level

Gasoline pump prices remained relatively stable the past week and prices in Carson City, in most cases, were lower.

The average retail gas prices in the state fell less than a penny over the week, or 0.7 cents to be precise, and averaged $2.77 per gallon in the latest GasBudy.com survey of 1,130 motor fuels outlets in the state, according to the gas price-monitoring website.

Meanwhile, in Carson City Monday the three lowest outlets posted prices at $2.56 a gallon and just two surveyed in the area, at the other end of the price range, exceeded the state average.

The trio at $2.56 included Eagle Gas, 1360 S. Carson St., Costco, 700 Old Clear Creek Road, and JM Gasoline, 1321 N. Carson St. The pair exceeding the state’s average, both of which came in at $2.79 a gallon, included the Chevron outlets at 4640 S. Carson St. and 915 Mica Dr. There were three outlets in Carson City at $2.57, seven at $2.59, one at $2.62, five at $2.75 and one at $2.76, the website also reported Monday.

The nationwide average over the past week was reported Sunday as $2.39 a gallon, up a half cent from the previous week, GasBuddy.com said. Patrick DeHaan, website petroleum analyst, said nationwide a third of all stations are priced below $2.25 per gallon, four-fifths of them are under $2.50 and 94 percent are below $3. He said a year ago, however, 99.1 percent of all stations were selling at more than $3.25 a gallon.

“We’ve come a long way,” he said, “and we won’t be looking back at that for quite some time.”
