Mayor Robert Crowell will read Carson City’s Arbor Day Proclamation at the Shade Tree Council’s second annual Arbor Day Fun Run/Walk and tree planting ceremony on Saturday, April 25, at Long Ranch Park.

The ceremony will start at 10 a.m., when state representatives will be on hand and Roy Trenoweth will be recognized for his service as a state forester and member of the Shade Tree Council. A tree will be planted, courtesy of Sierra Desert Garden Club. A 1.5 mile dog-friendly run/walk starting and ending at Long Ranch Park will start at 11 a.m., when a tree treasure hunt with arborist Rod Haulenbeek will also be held.

Registration, which opens at 9:30 a.m. at the event, costs $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and older. Children younger than 12 are admitted free. Registration includes bottled water.

Long Ranch Park is on the west side of Carson City on Longview Way, between Ash Canyon Road and Kings Canyon Road.
