The Historic Fourth Ward School Museum & Archives is hosting “Every Man Has the Right to Go to Hell in His Own Way,” an exhibit that offers a glimpse into the darker side of live lived by 19th century Virginia City residents.

The exhibit, which runs May through October, touches on common vices, such as opium and alcohol addiction, prostitution and murder, that prevailed in the Comstock in the 1800s.

According to Barbara Mackey, executive director for the Historic Fourth Ward School Museum & Archives, the display addresses the question, do Americans have more freedom to go to hell in their own way today or in the 1800s?

Admission costs $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-12. Children younger than 6 are admitted free.
