Former Fallon stars making waves

The end of the spring college season is in sight for several of Fallon’s ex-Greenwave stars.

Haley Jorgensen (tennis), Tanner Boone (track), Jill Pinder and Rileigh Ricken (softball), J.J. Boyle (baseball), Sydney Howard and Kayla Norcutt (rodeo) have been keeping Fallon on the radar this spring on the collegiate circuit.

Jorgensen, a sophomore, capped off a great week with a team-leading 13th singles wins for the Saint Mary’s (Minnesota) women’s tennis team last weekend in Division III play. Jorgensen was victorious over No. 4 Saint Benedict as she posted a 7-5, 6-4 victory to improve to 13-6 this year. Jorgensen’s 9-9 in doubles play, too.

St. Mary’s has three matches left to conclude the regular season. Jorgensen will be in action against St. Olaf College (Northfield, Minn.) and St. Norbert College (De Pere, Wis.) this weekend before finishing with Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.).

Boone, also a sophomore, continues his trek on the track and field team at Great Falls (Montana) in the NAIA.

Boone took 17th in the 1,500-meter run, finishing in 4 minutes, 19.48 seconds, in the Whitworth Sam Adams in Invitational in Spokane, Wash., earlier this month. Boone also took 19th in the 800 in 2:07.62 and was part of the 4x400 relay team that took sixth.

He finished 14th in the 5,000 run (16:00.79) in the SFCC WAR 8, also in Spokane. Great Falls has four meets left until the NAIA championships next month.

With one series left in the season, Pinder, a sophomore, will try to help Lewis and Clark (Portland, Ore.) snap a 12-game losing streak this weekend against Whitworth.

Pinder, who had surgery early last season, pitched well for the Division III club in a 4-3 loss to Willamette (Salem, Ore.). She received a no-decision after going 3.2 innings and allowed one earned run. Pinder is 1-4 in 10 appearances and has a 4.69 ERA this season.

In her first year, Ricken continues to pitch for Division II Southwestern Oklahoma State.

Ricken hasn’t thrown since April 3 after going 3.2 innings and allowing seven earned runs to Harding (Arkansas). She has a 4.89 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 78.2 innings for the Bulldogs, who have lost 12 of their last 14.

Southwestern hosts Southeastern Oklahoma State this weekend before concluding the regular season against Southern Arkansas. The conference tournament is next month.

Boyle, a sophomore utility player, is second-best in batting average for Monterey Peninsula College (Calif.), a community college. He is hitting .337, including two home runs and 16 RBIs. Monterey has several games remaining before the postseason begins in two weeks.

Rodeing at Feather River, Howard and Norcutt have been among the West Coast’s top goat tyers this season after competing at Fresno State last month. Both will be back in the arena this weekend in San Luis Obispo before visiting UNLV to end the month.
