Deadline for getting Real ID license moved back to October 2020

The federal Department of Homeland Security has moved back the deadline for Nevadans to have a Real ID drivers’ license to October 2020.

Nevada DMV Director Troy Dillard said before this announcement, federal officials had been unclear exactly when people would need an ID to board aircraft in the U.S.

He said his department began issuing Real ID compliant licenses in 2014 but still issues standard licenses. Those issued before November 2014 have no special markings and those issued since then have the wording “Not for Federal Official Use.”

He said the announcement is significant because it gives Nevada residents more time to obtain a Real ID.
