Community spotlight: Carson City squads go 1-2 at Comstock event

The Carson Futbol Club Pumas Elite and Galaxy finished first and second in the U16 Gold Division at last weekend’s Comstock Shootout at Edmonds Sports Compex.

The Elite blanked the Galaxy 5-0 in the finals on the strength of two goals apiece by Guillermo Hernandez and Adrian Torres plus one by Rogelio Herrera.

The Elite reached the finals by beating Carson FC Manchester United 2-1, South Tahoe Futbol Republic 4-1 and Sagebrush SC United 99 3-1. The Pumas Elite outscored opponents 14-3.

The Galaxy beat Nampa Kids Soccer National West 3-1, edged Sagebrush United Red 4-3 and Manchester United 2-1.

The girls portion of the Comstock Shotout is set for this weekend at Edmonds.

Hult, Steele capture crown

Eddie Hult and Randy Steele smoked the field with a 15-under 57 to win the Dayton Valley Palmer Club two-man net best ball tournament last weekend.

Mark Cox and Jim Fuller shot 59. Fuller carded a 1-under 71 on his own card. John Heibel and Vince McMahon were third at 62 while Ray Benefiel and Frank Holzhauer were fourth at 63. Bob Frazee and Chris Schreiner were fifth at 64. Mike Griswold and Ryan Thomspon finished in a sixth-place tie with Jason Clark and Andrew Palmer. Both teams shot 65s.

Pemberton wins at CVGC

Bob Pemberton shot a 140 to win the A flight at the 36-hole Masters Tournament at Carson Valley Golf Club. The event was played over consecutive Sundays.

Dennis Patterson shot 142 and Jack Sparman was third at 145. Charlie Poe won B flight with a 133, a stroke ahead of David Morris and two ahead of Frank Tislot. Bob Van Nort won C flight with a 136, which was three shots better than Joel Jern and four better than John Guidicatti and Paul Finan.
