A Sparks man was critically injured Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle rollover near Macari Lane and the Austin Highway (U.S. Highway 50 east) near mile marker 36.
Churchill County Sheriff Ben Trotter identified the man as Jeff Madden, 52. According to Trotter, the rollover ejected Madden from his 2012 Dodge Challenger.
Trotter said deputies arrived first on the scene, followed by paramedics from Banner Churchill Community Hospital. He said Care Flight arrived at the accident and then flew Madden to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.
The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. According to NHP spokesman Dave Gibson, Madden’s vehicle, which was headed eastbound, left the roadway on the south side and overturned by coming to rest on its roof. The NHP said it appears Madden was not wearing his seatbelt, and Gibson said the NHP is not suspecting any alcohol or drug involvement. Gibson said Madden is still in the hospital at this time.
