The body of Buffalo Jim still lies where it was found by the roadside, some 50 miles from here on the Overland road. His carcass is getting well dried up, and the hair all blown off from his head. He has been dead now some four weeks.

130 years ago

The memorial services. At sunrise a Presidential Salute of 21 guns will be fired. At 6 o’clock the funeral guns, such as are required to be fired by the Army and Navy regulations, will begin, and the salutes given each half hour until sundown. All American ships will fire the funeral salutes throughout the world, whenever Grant’s death is known. The services at the Opera House will begin at 2 p.m.

100 years ago

As the matter of paving Carson Street from the railroad depot on Washington Street to Sixth Street has been the chief issue coming before the people of this city. In the next couple of days it will be decided by the board of city trustees.

70 years ago

Men may return from the war to replace women operators at faro, roulette and chuck-a-luck, but the slick chick with a Black Jack stack will always have a job in Reno, according to Miss Billie Lowery, who has decided to make a career of riffling the paste boards.

50 years ago

Nevada’s 1965 highway toll climbed to 99 Sunday when a Winnemucca man died in a one-car accident in northern Humboldt County. The toll stood at 113 on the same date one year ago.
