We gain some of the following particulars relating to the recent fight with Indians in Surprise Valley. On the morning of July 10, Lt. Hobart’s company of Oregon Calvary was attacked about daylight by a strong force of Indians, some on foot and some on horseback, all well armed (continued on Wednesday).

Yesterday afternoon the boiler of a harvester engine exploded in Parker’s wheat field opposite the Orphan’s Home killing one man outright and wounding several others. When an Appeal reporter reached the spot a few moments after the explosion he found the crew too excited to give an account. The engine stood in the center of the field blown out from end to end. About a 150 feet away a man was lying covered with a blanket (continued on Wednesday).

If last night’s meeting of the board of city trustees can be taken as an augury, there is little doubt but that Carson Street, from the railroad at Washington Street to Second Street at least, and perhaps on to Sixth Street, will be paved and that, too, will happen before winter is on.

Bomb blasted and beleaguered Japan today offered officially to surrender to the allies, the White House announced that this government is consulting with Russia, Britain and China.

Bodies of two fliers whose plane crashed several days ago on the side of a mountain west of Carson City were recovered and brought to the Capitol Mortuary here. The single engine Swift rammed in-between two trees on the slope of Ash Canyon, four miles west of Carson City.
