Wild Horse Children’s Theater is looking for actors, singers and dancers, ages 5-18 to audition for Victor Herbert’s classic holiday musical, “Babes in Toyland,” which will play in Carson City on weekends, Dec. 4 and 11.
Auditions, by appointment only, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, in the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall, 511 W. King St. Callbacks will be on the following Saturday.
Auditioners are asked to bring a short, one minute or less, Broadway style song with accompaniment on tape, CD, or iPod that showcases vocal ability. Participants, who will also be taught a dance, are asked to wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
Based on Mother Goose characters, the roles available include: Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary; Tom-Tom, the Piper’s Son; Jack and Jill; Little Miss Muffet; Red Riding Hood, Toy Soldiers, Wicked Uncle Barnaby and his comic-ruffian assistants, Roderigo and Gonzorgo; and lovable Jane and Alan. The adaptation uses the original music of Victor Herbert, including “Toyland, Toyland” and “March of the Toys.”
