Firefighters spent Tuesday morning and early afternoon mopping up a tire fire that broke out during the early morning hours off Orange Street in Silver Springs.
According to County Manager Jeff Page, the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District responded to the fire before 3 a.m. Page said fire crews worked on containment before the blaze was extinguished.
Page said morning commuters were able to see smoke and flames from either U.S. Highways 95 Alternate or 50.
Emergency Management Coordinator Rob Loveberg said the fire will be in patrol status for the next 24 hours.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada Department of Public Safety, State Fire Marshal Division,” Loveberg said.
Both Loverberg and Page report no injuries or deaths occurred because of the fire.
