The Nevada Film Office on Wednesday agreed to award Scientific Games tax credits totaling $845,000 in return for building a sound stage and filming a game show at Bally’s in Las Vegas.
That money, office officials said, is the last of the $10 million lawmakers approved for tax credits to movie and TV producers who bring productions to Nevada.
The company is planning a TV show called Monopoly Millionaires Club but it told state officials the $10.9 million it plans to spend will build a permanent sound stage and control room that can be used by other productions willing to come to Las Vegas. According to the application for the tax credits, more than 82 percent of the money will be spent in Nevada including on hiring 61 employees and using Nevada businesses for everything from lighting to make-up artists.
The tax credits are transferable, which means they can be sold to other Nevada businesses that can take the credits against a variety of state taxes including on businesses, insurance companies and gaming. Any transfers must be approved by the Film Office and they expire if not used within four years.
