Watson here, mommy is on vacation, so guess who gets to write the CAPS column? It has come to my attention that CAPS is in serious need of funds for our veterinary care program. We have had a busy year with puppies and kitties, which has depleted our account. You really can’t blame our guests because they are homeless and many are rescued from the pound.
It is a tender mercy that CAPS is able to provide a no-kill shelter for animals who have been discarded by their owners. I’m a proud CAPS graduate, so I know how important it is to help our shelter and all of the guests. For most of our guests, CAPS is the only oasis in a harsh, cold life. Sadly, many of us don’t know why we were rejected, but we were.
With that in mind, I am appealing to our community to help with donations for our veterinary care program. Any amount will help because we need funds to continue the excellent services that CAPS provides. Please find it in your heart to give a donation. We will be at Walmart on Saturday, or if you prefer you can mail a donation to the address below.
Thank you in advance for any support you can provide. My mom will be back next week with stories of Alaska. I didn’t get to go so, I’m anxious to hear about the Alaskan Huskies. I’m not jealous, well just a little bit.
XOXO, Watson
WHO’S WHO AT CAPS?
I met Fay Carston at the storage sheds we are using for our garage sale. She is an enthusiastic lady who loves the mission of CAPS. Fay has recently undergone a hip replacement so she isn’t ready for dog walking but that doesn’t stop her. Fay volunteers at CAPS by keeping the dogs company in the play yard. She also helps at our yard sale and performs other necessary functions. A big four paws salute to Fay. You rock!
WHO’S NEW AT THE CAPS ZOO?
You absolutely must meet our newest kitten arrivals, Panda and Eddie. They are brother and sister; tuxedo black and white. Both Panda and Eddie are waiting to steal your heart! They are five months old, playful, friendly and irresistible. It’s fun to play with them so don’t delay and come in today for a play date.
We also have 11 frisky kitties who are too cute for words! CAPS’ policy, however, prohibits adopting out puppies or kittens under the age of six months to a home with children under five years of age. This is to protect both the children and the animal.
CAPS NEWS AND EVENTS
CAPS will be at Walmart tomorrow, along with Ki and Urtle at our Kissin’ Booth. Ki is the veteran of the kissing booth, and Urtle is the kisser-in-training. Come by and join their fan club. We have plenty of shirts and caps, so please check them out before or after greeting our canine volunteers.
CAPS’ garage sale is coming soon. We need your gently used appliances, furniture, tennis rackets, treadmills and miscellaneous items. We don’t need clothing. If you have items to donate, you can drop them off at our storage units located at 1105 Taylor Place (Spring Valley Rentals) units 67 and 68. Someone will be there from 9-11 a.m. on the following dates: Aug. 15 and 22. If you cannot make it on those dates, call Rita Hand at 775-423-6346 or 775-427-3376. Please leave a message if necessary, and Rita will return your call as soon as she can.
Flower Tree Nursery is raffling a 15-gallon tree of your choice. The raffle tickets are available at Flower Tree, and they are $1 for one ticket and $5 for six tickets. Be sure to get your tickets soon. The drawing date will be Sept. 6, and the winner doesn’t have to be present to win.
CAPS’ mailing address is P.O. Box 5128, Fallon, NV 89406. CAPS’ phone number is 775-423-7500. Please visit the CAPS website (www.capsnv.org) and Facebook page (Churchill Animal Protection Society). Be sure to “Like” CAPS on Facebook because we are really likable.
