Multiple organizations are collecting donations to support the loved ones of a fallen Carson City Deputy Carl Howell.
Howell was killed Saturday morning in the line of duty while responding to a physical domestic disturbance call at the 4100 block of Montez Drive. A male suspect, Jonathon Pope, came out of the residence while Howell was talking with the female victim and opened fire. Howell was able to return fire, killing Pope.
A memorial stands for Howell in front of the Sheriff’s Office and at the Nevada Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Memorial where people have paid their respects and left flowers, notes and pictures to honor Howell.
People from all over Nevada have started to raise money to help support Deputy Howell’s family.
Two young Reno girls set up a lemonade stand at the corner of Long Hollow and Red Willow Sunday and Monday, giving free lemonade in order to collect donations for Howell’s loved ones. Linda Marrone, of the Carson City Farmer’s Market will have a basket out at the next five Saturday Farmer’s Markets to collect money or food donations for the family.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department also has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money. As of Monday afternoon, they collected more than $2,500.
“We are saddened by the loss of one of our brothers and understand the tremendous toll it takes on family and loved ones,” the deputies said on their page. “Please help us to raise some funds for his family, no amount of money can ease the pain that losing a father and husband causes but it can help reduce the financial burden that follows.”

“It is with a very heavy heart that I ask our community to come together and support our law enforcement agency,” Don Gibson, president of the CCDSA wrote in a press release. “Carl, you will be greatly missed, always in our hearts and never forgotten by all your brothers and sisters. We have the watch from here, rest in peace our brother.”
