A shooting in the Gardnerville Ranchos occurred about an hour after a fight, in which the possible shooter was the victim of a battery.

John Stalcup, 56, has been identified as the person of interest in connection with the shooting.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Stalcup was involved in a fight involving four people that occurred at about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday.

“When deputies arrived on scene, the suspect in the battery had fled the scene,” he said.

Sgt. Pat Brooks said that at 9:36 p.m. deputies received a report of shots fired at 706 Ann Way. The suspect in the original battery had returned to the address, and was shot during a subsequent altercation.

The initial aggressor received a single gunshot wound, which remains life-threatening. He was taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Stalcup was treated and released from the Carson Valley Medical Center.

Brooks said that at this time no arrests have been made, the firearm has been recovered and this case is still under investigation.
