Public Invited to Celebrate Opening of “Comstock Wabi-Sabi” Exhibition on August 29th
A free reception with live music and hors d’oeuvres to celebrate the opening of Brian Schorn’s new exhibition in Virginia City will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Art and Retreat Center, where Schorn will share two dozen pieces in “Comstock Wabi-Sabi.”
Schorn, visiting artist with the Resident Artist Program in Silver City, has been discovering the Comstock this summer and incorporating them into art pieces. He said the display is inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, the recognition of beauty that exists in the imperfect, imperament and incomplete.
The artis will offer gallery talks about his work from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 5 and 6, when guided tours of St. Mary’s will also be offered. Schorn’s work can be seen thorugh Sept. 6 in the George Post Gallery at St. Mary’s Art Center, which is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. For more information, call 775-847-7774.
