KIWANIS BREAKFAST

The 57th annual Kiwanis breakfast kicks off Monday from 6:30-10 a.m,. in the parking lot next to E.H. Hurst Insurance on South Maine Street.

Tradition calls for candidates seeking public office to come to the breakfast and meet the local residents. Those expected to attend are Sen. Dean Heller, Congressman Mark Amodei, Gov. Brian Sandoval, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki and State Sen. Mark Hutchison, who will be cutting melons.

MUD VOLLEYBALL

The Churchill County Parks and Recreation Department said this year’s tournaments include the double elimination in the 25th annual Nevada State Championship Tournament and the single elimination consolation Cantaloupe Festival Tournament.

All teams begin in the Nevada State Championship Tournament. Teams who win at least one of their first two matches continue playing in the state tournament. Teams who lose their first two matches in the state tournament are placed in the Cantaloupe Festival Single Elimination Consolation Tournament.

Churchill County Parks and Recreation calls it “messy fun.”

The annual Mud Volleyball Tournament is Saturday and Sunday and located east of the festival’s main activities.

Deadline to enter a team is Friday at 5 p.m. at the Churchill County Parks and Recreation building on Scheckler Road next to the indoor pool. Call 775-423-7733 for more information.

This is a three-game guaranteed tournament. There is a 24-team limit for the tournament. Each team can have a maximum of 10 players and they must be at least 16 years of age.

The first games start at 9 a.m. on Saturday and run until about 4 p.m. The first games on Sunday begin at 10 a.m. and run to about 2 p.m.

Dairy Queen is providing the prize money:

1st Place — $400 Cash plus the first place trophy

2nd Place — $200 Cash plus the second place trophy

3rd Place — $100 Cash plus the third place trophy

The Cantaloupe Champion (loser’s bracket) receives a championship plaque.
