Bruce Victor and Marla Fibish, who together are Noctambule, are bringing their original and traditional Celtic tunes to the Brewery Arts Center Dec. 12.
The Brewery Arts Center’s Celtic music series brings original and traditional music to its Maizie Harris Jesse Black Box Theater.
The next Celtic performance will feature Noctambule, a duo from San Francisco, at 7 p.m. Dec. 12.
Noctambule features Marla Fibish and Bruce Victor, who play original and traditional music in a variety of forms with an array of poetry, original instrumental pieces, and traditional Irish tunes thrown in.
The collaboration offers an unusual array of strings — various guitars in varied tunings, mandola, mandolin, bouzouki, cittern, tenor guitar — all of which accompany the musicians’ blended voices.
Fibish and Victor took the name “Noctambule,” the French word for “night-owl,” from a Robert Service poem about a nocturnal ramble through the back alleys of Paris, which they have set to music and included on their CD “Travel in the Shadows.” Their first CD together, it explores many forms of the “night journey” in song, offering the traveler the opportunity to see and experience things differently once the usual sources of light have been extinguished.
The duo selected a broad variety of “noctambulatory” verse from Tennyson, Neruda, Roethke, St. Vincent Millay, and Robert Service. In addition, they include two original instrumental pieces — a reel and a waltz — as well as one traditional Irish song.
Tickets are $12 for seniors and students, $10 for members, $15 for adults or $20 at the door and are available at breweryarts.org or at the Brewery Arts Center Artisan Store.
