Carson City community organizations will be hosting their Share your Christmas Food Drive Dec. 11 at the Governor’s Mansion.
The Advocates to End Domestic Violence, Ron Wood Family Resource Center, F.I.S.H and Juvenile Probation will be collecting non-perishable foods from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Last year, the event raised nearly 2,000 pounds of food to dispense to the three organizations. This year, they are hoping to have enough to go to Advocates for the women in their shelter, F.I.S.H, and Ron Wood’s free food bank.
Joyce Buckingham, executive director of Ron Wood said that they will accept any non-perishable, however they could really use proteins such as beans, tuna, meat and peanut butter, which is better for people in the long run. She said that for the holidays, they are also in need of cranberries, yams, and such. People can also make monetary donations at the event.
The event will also feature live music, performances by the Carson High cheerleading squad, and appearances by local celebrities like Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The drive will be in the driveway of the Governor’s Mansion, so people can just drive up and deposit their food on the lawn.
