Carson City Sheriff’s Office swears in three deputies

For the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, swearing in three deputies Friday afternoon meant more to the department than gaining new officers.

Deputies Cody Bindley, Jeremy Garcia and Dennis Moore were all sworn into the Sheriff’s Office in a ceremony Friday afternoon. The three men were hired to fill the void left by the new school resource officers who were put into the Carson City schools Friday.

“This is a bigger day than most can realize because there are so many things going on and it’s amazing,” said Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The three school resource officers began their first day Friday, which put uniformed officers into Carson Middle School, Eagle Valley Middle School and Carson High School. Because the program took three deputies from the patrol unit, three deputies were moving from the detention unit to patrol, which meant three bodies were needed in the detention center.

“We have had to do a lot of shifting around the department and that means there is a tremendous amount of stress for these folks,” Furlong said. “We are asking for a lot this year.”

Furlong said these men are instrumental because they are representing a big change with the department at this time.

The three new deputies all recited the Oath of Office and their families got the chance to pin their badges to their uniforms.

“Getting into this department is extremely difficult because we only take the best,” Furlong said.

All three men will start out in the detention unit.
