Carson City should take some refugees
Most of the millions of men, women and children who risked their lives to flee Syria with little but the clothes on their backs are not hardened criminals or ISIS or al-Qaida agents seeking to destroy us. They are simple, honest folk fleeing a holocaust.
What vile combination of hypocrisy, cowardice, willful blindness and selfishness demands we deny these innocents prompt shelter in our country. Surely Carson City can welcome 500 or so of these individuals and families without demanding a two-year screening process first. Any difficulty in dealing with the few bad hats among them, which may be added to our existing supply, is more than balanced by the gratitude and respect we stand to earn and the benefits we stand to gain from their endeavors and their presence.
As Hillel would say, if we are not for ourselves, then who will be for us? But if we are only for ourselves, then what are we?
