“The Eastern Slope” — Such is the name of a newspaper which Mr. J.C. Lewis has just started in Washoe City. We wish it a complete success. Of its name, its editor says: “The name we have selected for our paper is perhaps the least important item connected with its issuance, and yet many will enquire what motive induced the choice; we would say in the first place we found it necessary to discard every name feature and semblance to any and all papers published in this county.”

Robbing the governor. An ex-convict at his old tricks. Yesterday afternoon a man named Johnson, who was but three days out of state prison, stopped Harry Martin in front of the Gov. Adams’ house and asked him if Adams was at home. Receiving a negative reply, the man went up and rang the bell several times. Martin thought the movements suspicious and watched him go round Broadhead’s house and climb into a window. Martin then made quick time and came back with Sheriff Ulrick. As they reached the gubernatorial mansion, they found Johnson coming out with a lot of silver ware under his arm and in his pocket. Gov. Adams and his wife were both absent in San Francisco. This is the second time burglars have invaded the governor’s residence.

Eight new members were taken into the Capitol Post No. 4 of the American Legion last night. The newest additions include: John J. Lynch, John E. Bawden, Pererdeda E. Lewis, Joseph J. Schulz, Leon Etchart, Harry E. Sweetland, Robert A. Long and Arthur G. Greiner.

Heavy snow fell at times in Eastern Nevada over the weekend, leaving 10 inches on the ground at Wells today.

Emotions exploded Thursday between the public and Board of Supervisors over a major water and sewer rate increase of 75 and 64 percent.
