Quentin McColl

The world has lost another member of “The Greatest Generation”. The McColl family has lost its patriarch. Quentin passed away peacefully on December 13, 2015. He remained stubbornly active and independent ‘til the end. Quentin was born in Savage, Minnesota to Robert and Gertrude McColl on April 21, 1921. The oldest of 5 children, Quentin grew up quickly after his father was confined to a wheelchair by polio. Quentin enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1946. During that period (July 16, - 27, 1943), while serving as a radioman on a PBY air-craft station out of Guadal - Canal, mechanical failure forced their pilot to ditch the aircraft in the ocean. The 8 man crew used life rafts to reach the Japanese occupied island of Vella La Vella. With the assistance of island natives, the crew evaded the enemy for 11 days before being rescued. After his military service, Quentin married Marjorie Quinn in 1946. He continued a DOD/ Civil service Career while they raised their 4 children in Texas and Minnesota. They chose to retire in Nevada in 1976. Quentin was a proud Life/Legacy member of the VFW. Quentin is survived by his 4 children,

numerous grand and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Marjorie, his parents, and two brothers. He will be missed. Per Quentin’s request, no service will be held.
