It’s a special time of year at Nevada Humane Society and for homeless pets the arrival into their new homes should be one to remember—that’s why on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dogs and cats will be delivered to their new homes by Santa Claus and his Elves!
Starting on December 22, people are invited to visit the NHS shelters (one in Reno, one in Carson City), meet with adoptable animals, and select the one they would like adopt. The normal adoption process will follow, but if the adopter chooses, instead of taking the pet home at the time of adoption, Santa and his elves will deliver the pet to the new home! Pet deliveries will occur between set times on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
“There is no better way to celebrate the holidays than by bringing people and pets together. People had a great time with this last year so we’re thrilled to be doing it again and making holiday wishes come true for so many families!” said Kimberly Wade, Senior Manager of Communications and Events. “Volunteers are planning on going all out to make this event special—dressing up and bringing along holiday treats and stockings. It’s truly a Christmas miracle!”
Though there are many adorable cats and dogs that need new homes, Santa is pretty busy this time of year so deliveries are limited and available on a first come, first served basis. All animals adopted are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adoption fees vary, but Santa’s delivery is of no extra charge, though donations are welcome and will go directly to the care of homeless pets.
Nevada Humane Society is open for adoptions seven days a week at two locations (except for Christmas day) from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and an hour earlier at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
