Lt. Gov. Crossman called on us yesterday and corrected part of our statement with regard to the manner and means of the escape of the convicts from the penitentiary yesterday. The escape was not from the prison yard, but by cutting a hole through the prison wall. The fact is, both the prison regulations and the prison itself are lamentably imperfect.

130 years ago

D.L. Bliss spent his Christmas in good shape. More than 20 poor families in this city received Christmas turkeys and chords of wood from him. This is about as good a way to spend Christmas as can be named.

The first of a series of informal dances to be given once or twice a month during the winter was given by Governor and Mrs. Boyle at the Mansion last evening. A dozen or more couples were present and a very enjoyable evening was spent.

Four colorful railway coaches packed with Boy Scouts, and a sprinkling of Girl Scouts pulled into Carson Saturday morning as guests of the V&T Railroad. After a tour of the state museum, the Capitol Grounds and other historic Carson City sites, the Reno visitors were taken home by old faithful, No. 25.

Mr. Burt Lindsay motored to Reno Monday evening to meet his daughter, Mrs. Ruth Blake, who arrived on the late Southern Pacific train from Berkeley.

At the Movies 4 — Robert Redford and Meryl Streep in “Out of Africa.” At the Meadowdale Twin Theatres in Gardnerville — “King Solomon’s Mines” and “One Magic Christmas.”
