Nevada state gaming up, Carson City down

While November’s gaming win increased 7.76 percent statewide, the Carson Valley reporting area saw just its second monthly decrease this calendar year.

Statewide, non-restricted gaming licensees reported total win of $944.26 million. That is a $68 million increase over the same month of 2014.

The Carson Valley reporting area, which includes valley portions of Douglas County as well as casinos in the capital, reported a 2.58 percent decrease to $7.75 million.

Game and Table win was flat compared to the previous year, down just four tenths of a percent to $347.9 million. The problem was, as it has been all year for the statewide numbers, Baccarat, which was down 14.3 percent to $109.9 million.

Slot play, however, continues to recover in the wake of the recession, raking in $596.4 million in November. That’s a 13.2 percent increase.

Washoe County recorded its third consecutive monthly increase with $61.3 million total win. That is up 3.4 percent or $2 million compared to November 2014. For the calendar year, Washoe casinos are up 3.5 percent. Most of the increase was in Game and Table win — $1.5 million of the total. And $1.1 million of that came from sports betting.

Sports betting also figured strongly in North Shore casinos at Crystal Bay where Game and Table win was up better than 55 percent, all of it in the $228,000 from sports betting. That gave North Shore its third consecutive month of increases at $1.8 million even though slot win was down by 14 percent.

At South Lake Tahoe casinos in Stateline, total win was up 17.3 percent to $14.3 million — an increase of $2.1 million. It was an increase that has to be looked at as compared against the 30 percent decrease reported in November 2014.

The story was slot win that increased 25.6 percent over the previous November, a total of $9.2 million. Game and Table win also rose — by 4.5 percent to just more than $5 million.

Churchill County casinos were up a bit in November — by just seven tenths of a percent. Total win for the 10 gaming locations in the county was $1.57 million. Game and Table win was up 1.9 percent but those games account for just $63,000 of the total.

For the fiscal year to date, total gaming tax collections are at $328.9 million — pretty much even with the previous year at two-thirds of a percent.
