Acting on an informant’s tip, Carson City Sheriff’s deputies Thursday arrested two Californians and seized 10.6 pounds of marijuana.

Derek Peterson, 24, and Maile Rose Daugherty, 20, were both arrested on suspicion of felony transportation of a drug for sale and felony possession of marijuana.

According to the arrest report, after receiving a tip the men were bringing marijuana to Carson City and a home on Coloma Drive, deputies from the Special Enforcement Team spotted the Jeep driven by the two suspects.

Deputies followed the two from that home until the arrest report states it was stopped for speeding.

The deputy who made the stop said when the driver rolled the window down, “the strong odor of marijuana emitted from inside the cab of the vehicle.”

Rex, the deputy’s drug sniffing dog, alerted on all doors of the vehicle and the subsequent search revealed several large vacuum sealed bags containing “a large amount of a green, leafy substance.”

Both were charged with transportation for sale and possession of a felony amount of marijuana. Peterson was additionally charged with possession of paraphernalia and speeding. His bail was set at $23,545.

Daugherty was held in lieu of $22,500 bail.
