Beware of Best of Fallon imposter

The second round of a company passing itself off as the Lahontan Valley News Best of Fallon contest has returned.

The LVN warned the community about something similar in early December.

The annual BOF recognizes the top businesses and individuals in Churchill County. The LVN has conducted the BOF contest for the past 11 years.

Editor Steve Ranson said the voting was completed in January, and the votes have been tallied. Marketing representatives are in the process of contacting winners.

Ranson said the only LVN representatives who would call or email BOF winners are Andrea Goodrick and Kim Keyser.

In the latest series of emails, Ranson said a local businessman contacted him on Wednesday, saying he was a winner and would he like to buy a plaque from Showmark.

“We provide our Best of Fallon winners with a plaque at no charge,” Ranson said. “If you also receive an email asking you to buy an ad so you can be in the Best of Fallon directory, be aware that this is not the local contest we provide to our readers.”

Ranson said if business owners receive an email from showmarkmedia.com, they should ignore it but call the LVN to report it.
