Local organic farm, Nevada Fresh Pak®, is sponsoring the Mason Valley Beekeeper’s fifth annual beekeeping conference, Feb. 27 and 28, in Yerington. This sponsorship will permit scientific beekeeper, Randy Oliver, to attend the conference and educate the local community about the evolving beekeeping industry in congruence with the agriculture industry.
“As goes the bees, goes the environment,” said Debbie Gilmore, co-founder of Mason Valley Beekeepers. “Without the help of bees to pollinate food crops, we would have low to no crops at all. They have a real environmental impact.”
Bees are one of the top pollinators of seed crops, such as those on Nevada Fresh Pak’s farming fields. With little prior knowledge to the world of beekeeping, Nevada Fresh Pak’s sponsorship with Mason Valley Beekeepers will help educate a good number of the farming community in the local area, as well as those interested in beekeeping. Experts in the field of beekeeping will be giving presentations throughout the conference and a banquet will be held in honor of Oliver’s appearance.
This conference is open to both Mason Valley Beekeeper club members and the general public. Registration is $60 for both conference days including the banquet, $50 for both conference days, $25 for the banquet, and $35 for the conference and banquet with a student I.D.
