Former Washoe County school superintendent Pedro Martinez is one of four finalists for the job of superintendent of Boston Public Schools.

Boston’s Superintendent Search Committee said in a statement Thursday the other finalists are Dana Bedden, superintendent of Richmond Public Schools; Tommy Chang, a superintendent within Los Angeles Unified School District; and Guadalupe Guerrero, deputy superintendent at San Francisco Unified School District.

The panel said it considered 70 candidates during a yearlong search.

Martinez was fired from his job in Washoe County last year, but the firing was found to be illegal and he returned to work until the school board voted in September to buy out his contract. He left the position in November.
