Open letter to Sen. Dean Heller
When I read that you, Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada, were the only GOP member of the Senate that voted against the resolution to defund the immigration arm of DHS in order to stop Obama’s unlawful amnesty, my jaw hit the floor. I was angry when you voted in support of the Gang of Eight bill last year, but this vote has me absolutely outraged.
In trying to understand your thinking, I researched articles referencing your vote in various publications. The reasoning behind this slap in the face to your Republican constituents seems to be directly connected to the amount of campaign money you received from left-wing groups supporting amnesty. Tod Story, director of the Nevada chapter of the ACLU, said about your vote: “In Nevada, if you want to get elected to public office, you’re going to have to be accommodating to minority communities. Certainly running on a xenophobic platform isn’t going to get you anywhere.”
Is that what we are to you? Xenophobes? Why, because we demand that our government control our borders, enforce our laws, and bring in those who want to immigrate here for a better life, through a legal and sane process?
You obviously are trying to reach out to the Hispanic-American community with your pandering foolishness. American citizens who voted for you, regardless of ethnicity, want what is in America’s best interests. Try articulating that when you speak to naturalized citizens. Legal immigration — yes! Illegal immigration — no!
