The Storey County Fire Protection District has completed its Insurance Service Organization Public Protection Classification Program for fire suppression services, maintaining its Level 3 designation for five miles from the stations in Virginia City, Virginia Highlands and Lockwood.

In addition, the fire district received a rating of 3 for the fire station at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, which was previously rated as a 10.

“Maintaining our current rating is outstanding and establishing a new rating for TRI is especially important for the companies that are based at the industrial center as well as those expanding or relocating,” Gary Hames, fire chief for Storey County Fire Protection District, said. “Our low PPC rating means lower insurance premiums, and also provides fire districts with a valuable benchmark for budgeting and enhancing our fire protection services and improvements.”

Of note is the innovate consolidation of services in the Mark Twain Estates area with the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District. Combining resources and personnel between both fire districts from the station located at Highway 50 and Six Mile Canyon (Fire Station No. 38) has maintained its rating of 3 and saved tax dollars. Fire Station No. 38 is recognized as an ISO Class 3 and is within five miles of any residential structure within the Mark Twain Estates of Storey County.

Insurance Service Organization is the leading independent supplier for data and analytics for the property/casualty insurance industry. Ratings range from a Class 1, the best, to Class 10, the worst. Insurance companies use this rating for underwriting and calculating premiums for residential, commercial and industrial properties.

The Storey County rating takes effect July 1, maintaining the current rating since the last renewal in 2007.
