Nevada lawmakers are proposing a special seal for the diplomas of bilingual high school graduates.
Members of the Assembly Education Committee are expected to review AB166 at a meeting on Wednesday.
The measure would create a State Seal of Biliteracy that would be applied to a diploma if a student completes all their English classes with at least a 2.0 grade point average, and demonstrates proficiency in a second language.
The student could show proficiency with a score of 3 or higher on a foreign language Advanced Placement exam, or a score of 4 or higher on an International Baccalaureate exam.
They could also complete at least four years of foreign language classes with a 3.0 grade point average or higher.
The measure is spearheaded by Democratic Assemblywoman Teresa Benitez-Thompson.
