Leown Lavinnia Turley

Leown Lavinnia Turley, a resident of Fallon for 25 years, died Monday, January 26, 2015, in the Reno, NV, Renown Hospital. Born April 23,1916, in Sidney, Montana, Leown Lavinnia McChesney, the second eldest of five girls, spent her early years helping her family run a boarding house that primarily accommodated ranchers and miners. In 1934, she migrated to Ontario, Oregon, with her parents, her siblings and their spouses and families, where she eventually met her husband, Chester Turley. They moved to Sacramento in 1944 when Chester was drafted during WWII, and then eventually, settled in Sacramento, CA where they resided for 45 years. They raised a family of four: Lavinnia Turley-Porteous (Floyd), Judy Turley-Vannoy (Jon), Sherry Turley-Zedlitz, and Jerry D. Turley. Leown and Chester were faithful and active members of the Nazarene Church in both Sacramento and Fallon (a 50 year span.) Leown taught adult Sunday school classes for 25 years in Sacramento. She and Chester participated in volunteer work and church programs during their retirement years in Fallon, and Leown was known for her love and knowledge of the Bible. She was an artist, an avid reader, and entertained friends and family abundantly. She held an impressive matriarchal status with: four children, twelve grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She was a devoted and loving wife of 65 years, and survived her son, Jerry Turley, age 30, her grandson, Jonathan Vannoy, age 21, and her husband, Chester Turley, age 89, and her siblings. She is adored and revered by her remaining family who will always view her as a strong, loving, nurturing lady who “fought the good fight” (Timothy II, 4:7) and lived an exemplary Christian life. Funeral services was held Saturday January 31, 2015 at 11AM at Smith Family Funeral Home, 505 Rio Vista Dr. Interment will follow at the Fallon cemetery.
