Remembering generosity of Elvis
Elvis Presley has his birthday today, Jan. 8. See the book at the library “Careless Love: The Unmasking of Elvis Presley” — good reading.
Does anyone know how Elvis performed in Hawaii rasing $62,000 for the USS Arizona World War II ship that was destroyed by Japan? Elvis raised the money to make that ship into a memorial. He was there to perform a movie.
Not many people know Elvis did this honorable thing for those servicemen who died in World War II. This is one of his generosities that he did to make things better in the world, especially for the families of their loved ones who are still there.
Col. Parker persuaded Elvis to buy Franklin Roosevelt’s yacht, a tourist attraction in Long Beach, and Elvis presented it to Danny Thomas to auction it off to benefit St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., a research center.
The story goes that where all this happened was close to where Elvis was born or where he lived. Who knows this story?
Elvis seemed to agree that he should do this because it connected to World War II, as did the Arizona he helped to restore.

Republicans, Reid, you were elected by people
A very happy and prosperous New Year to all.
I have a project for our new Attorney General: Do all of you remember the days of true freedom? No socialist government in power, of the people, by the people and for the people. In a true freedom, the majority rules.
How is it that the majority vote for a state law can be overruled and banished by a single appointed federal civilian civil servant? How is it that our Supreme Court can force us to have Obamacare? How is it that most of the state of Nevada belongs to the federal government?
Nevada belongs to us. We the people are Nevada. We are very well and fairly governed. We have good laws for the people.
I also have a suggestion for the feds — butt out. Provide a very strong military to keep us safe, and fix the roads.
Remember all the promises we got from Harry Reid. Remember all the promises we got from the Republican Party. I remind you that you were elected by the people, for the people, not the party.
