FPD steps up patrols
Because of a rash of vehicle burglaries committed over the weekend, the Fallon Police Department has stepped up patrols in all neighborhoods within the city, said Capt. Ron Wenger.
According to Wenger, no new reports have been turned in since Monday when 14 incidences were submitted to the FPD. The break-ins all occurred in the north part of the city, specifically in a swath between Allen Road to CVS pharmacy and in the neighborhood of B and Bailey streets.
Wenger said the vandals have primarily used forced entry through one of the doors to gain entrance.
The FPD, said Wenger, has collected some evidence from its leads and sent them to a laboratory for analysis.
Wenger said people who leave their vehicles parked on the street must lock them and remove any valuables.

The Nevada Highway Pagtrol identified on Thursday the pedestrian who was killed on New Year’s Eve in Sparks.
The NHP said Sparks resident Carl R. Lindesmith, 55, was fatally struck by Tiffany M. Hendrix, 29, of Fallon.
Trooper Dave Gibson, NHP sokesman, said Hendrix was traveling southbound on East McCarran Boulevard when Lindesmith crossed the thoroughfare from the Silver State Plaza. Gibson said Hendrix hit the man, who was not using a crosswalk, in the left lane. Lindesmith was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Hendrix stopped at the scene of the accident to check the status of the pedestrian, called 911 and stayed on scene to cooperate fully with the investigation,” Gibson said. ”The NHP does not suspect Hendrix to be impaired at the time of the accident.”
Gibson said the speed limit is 40 miles per hour, and there is spot roadway lighting.
