The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association Board of Control will meet today and Thursday at the Peppermill Resort and Casino in Reno.
Board members will act and listen to numerous proposals affecting high school sports in the Silver State.
Among the topics up for discussion or action are the following:
The elimination of Division III soccer per NAC 386.766. The update states, “Prerequisites to scheduling or conducting state tournament for Class 1A or 2A region or regional tournament for Class 1A or 2A league; number of participants required for certain sanctioned sports.”
Possible action may be taken for a Northern Nevada Rubric in soccer.
Assistant Director Donnie Nelson and Incline soccer coach Tom Canino will present an idea to follow a European model for league affiliation.
Update on the search for a new executive director. Current Executive Director Eddie Bonine took the same position in Louisiana last month and will remain with the NIAA until the 90-day clause in his contract expires.
The update will focus on the timeline, search proposal and possible move of NIAA office to southern Nevada.
Members will discuss the formation of a realignment committee for the Fall 2016 through spring 2020 cycle.
Bonine will make recommendations for potential candidates and Nelson will discuss possible meeting dates and sites.
NIAA legal counsel Paul Anderson will provide the board with a report on a proposal to create a 50 percent regular season participation requirement in cross country, golf, tennis, skiing, wrestling, swimming and track in order for a student-athlete to be eligible for the NIAA postseason.
