Amateur radio

The Amateur Radio of Churchill County (ARCC) invites all current amateur (Ham) radio operators or anyone interested in amateur radio to its monthly meeting, which is on the first Tuesday of the month at the Churchill County Administrative Complex, conference room 102, 155 N. Taylor St.

Amateur radio operators are invited to attend a weekly NET on Sundays at 6 p.m. at repeater 146.97 with a PL of 103.5 Hz to exchange information relating to general amateur radio topics.

All current amateur (HAM) radio operators or anyone interested in getting their amateur (HAM) radio license come to our bi-monthly Volunteer Examination (Testing) Session, held on the third Saturday (March 21) of every other month.

Get your flu shot

Flu vaccine is being offered in the local pharmacies, private doctors and the Community Health Nurse.

You can prevent yourself from getting the flu simply by getting a flu vaccination every year. Protect yourself, your family and the community.

Lahontan Republican Women

MOPS meeting

Are you the Mother of a Preschooler, birth to 5 yrs.? Do you need a break a couple of times a month?

We hope at our meetings moms will find encouragement, support, relevant teaching, and opportunities to develop relationships with other women who are in the same stage of life. MOPS meets 10 a.m. to noon the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at Parkside Bible Fellowship. Bereavement Support Group

Eden Hospice (Formerly XL Hospice): Drop in Bereavement Support Group meetings for the newly bereaved on the second Tuesdays of every month at 5:30 p.m. and the second Wednesdays of every month at noon.

Lyon County Lincoln Day dinner

The Lyon County Republicans will hold their annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Feb. 7 at The Boys & Girls Club, 124 N. Main St.,in Yerington.

No-host cocktails will begin at 5:30 p.m. and a buffet dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

The emcee for the evening will be State Senator James Settelmeyer. The keynote speaker will be Nevada Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison. Many other federal, state and local Republican leaders will be in attendance.

ROCCC meeting

The Restore Our College Campus Committee (ROCCC) will meet Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. in Room 102 of the Churchill County Complex, 155 No. Taylor St..

Landmarks of Prophecy

Landmarks of Prophecy, the Doug Batchelor Video Series, began Jan. 16 in the Seventh-Day Adventist church Sanctuary, 755 Esmeralda St., at 6:30 p.m.

It will be shown every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until complete.

March youth workshops

“Wetland and Wings is taking applications for March youth workshop and upland bird hunt. Youth ages 10-17 can apply. No experience or gear needed for the two half-day workshops. Lunch provided both days.

Topics include gun safety, trap shooting, bird identification, dog use and a mentored bird hunt.

Community Service Thrift Shop

The Community Service Thrift Shop at 169 E. Center Street is open 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. each weekday.

We are a non-profit organization run by a group of dedicated community volunteers. We do not have room for bicycles, beds, couches or large televisions. We receive donations at the back door from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. weekdays.

We have received lots of material (priced at $1 a yard) and lots of Lace trim’ priced as marked, that is for sale.

The Stuf ‘n Such Thrift Store, owned and operated by Banner Churchill Community Hospital Auxiliary, is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., 99 S. Nevada St., 775-423-6446. Donations are accepted Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

American Legion

Marine Corps League

The High Desert Detachment of the Marine Corps League meets the first Saturday each month at noon at the VFW Hall, 405 S. Maine St.

The Hearts of Gold Quilters meets every Thursday 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Fallon Convention Center, 100 Campus Way. All quilters are welcome.

We meet weekly to make donation quilts, as well as working on our own projects.

Child support enforcement

Child support enforcement services are available through the Churchill County District Attorney’s office.

The staff may be able to help establish parentage and help obtain a child support order to include medical support. Pick up an application at the Churchill County Child Support Office at 165 N. Ada St., or visit www.churchillcounty.org and follow the links to the District Attorney’s Child Support Division.

Volunteers needed for tax preparation

Churchill County Social Services will be participating in the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program for the 2014 Tax Season.

e are looking for volunteers to assist with income tax preparation. Individuals don’t have to have several years of experience in preparing income taxes but should enjoy working with the public. Training will be provided and volunteers who complete the tax season will be paid a stipend.
