Medical marijuana spots in front of Carson City Planning Commission

Requests to locate medical marijuana establishments on Deer Run road and Sheep Drive go before Carson City’s Planning Commission Wednesday.

At the commission’s 5 p.m. meeting in the Sierra Room at the Community Center, 851 E. William St., members also will review three items on a proposal for a congregate care housing and skilled nursing memory care complex at 1001 Mountain St. and at 608 and 610 W. Washington St.

The medical marijuana establishments, which require approval of special use permits, are for both a cultivation and production facility at 3130 N. Deer Road, and for a cultivation facility at 5835 Sheep Dr. The paired cultivation and production facility on Deer Run Road would come under two use permits sought by Nevada Organix LLC. The Sheep Drive cultivation location permit was sought by Roy L. Street.

Street owns the property on which he wants his cultivating operation; the Deer Run property is owned by Dandini Wallach, LLC. Both properties involved in those medical marijuana applications are zoned general industrial.

The three items related to the memory care complex planned at Mountain and Washington streets seek commission and then Board of Supervisor approval for a zoning map change, a use permit for multi-family units involved, and a growth management change allowing the use of more water for the complex. If allowed, the congregate care housing and skilled nursing complex could use 19,280 gallons per day rather than 7,500.

That water-related item actually will be heard after the commission will recess and reconvene to act as the Growth Management Commission. Any business exceeding 7,500 gallons daily requires such review and approval.

Carson Tahoe Hospital is seeking the zoning map and water changes, and the city planning staff recommendation is to approve going ahead with the complex.
