Nancy Grundy, a 55-year Carson City resident, died on December 31, 2014, at the age of 83. Nancy was born in Stryker, Ohio, grew up on a farm in Rawson, Ohio, and earned her pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University. She married Richard D. Grundy in 1955 and worked as a pharmacist while he attended medical school. In 1959, she and Dr. Grundy moved to Carson City, where he joined the medical practice of

Doctors Ontie Hovington and Richard Petty. Nancy later became the first head consulting pharmacist at Carson Tahoe Hospital. Nancy served as a trustee on the board of the Carson City Library during the time the board was charged with using a large grant from the Max C. Fleischman Foundation to build Carson’s state-of-the-art library on Roop Street; she volunteered at the Library for over 50 years. Nancy was also active in many groups, including the Kings Canyon Book Group, the Carson-Sierra Spinners and Weavers, the First Presbyterian Church of Carson City and its choir, and the Mark Twain Garden Club. She was an avid supporter of local arts and culture, and a quiet advocate for the needy and less-fortunate. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, and her sister, Marjorie Gallagher. She is survived by her sister, Emily (Jim) Karch of Troy, Ohio, her children Susan Ledoux, Tom Grundy (Sherry), and Anne Carvalho, grandchildren Anthony, Gabrielle, and Lucia Carvalho, and Miriam and Brigid Ledoux, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Carson City at eleven o’clock on the morning of Saturday, February 7, 2015, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions may be made in memory of Nancy Grundy to the Friends of the Carson City Library; the Ross Clinic, in care of F.I.S.H.; or Doctors Without Borders USA. Capitol City Cremation and Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
